2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cornmeal
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar
1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
1 cup warm water
1/4 cup olive oil
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 cup Italian sausage, cooked and crumbled
1 cup sliced bell peppers
1 cup sliced mushrooms
1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
In a large bowl, combine flour, cornmeal, salt, and sugar.
In a separate bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes.
Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
Roll out the dough and press it into a deep-dish pizza pan.
Layer the mozzarella cheese, sausage, bell peppers, and mushrooms on the dough.
Pour the crushed tomatoes over the toppings and sprinkle with oregano and garlic powder.
Bake for 30-35 minutes until the crust is golden brown.
Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
For a vegetarian option, omit the sausage.
Feel free to customize toppings based on your preference.
Letting the dough rise longer can enhance the flavor.
