Johnny Marzetti Casserole is a hearty and comforting dish made with ground beef, pasta, and a rich tomato sauce, topped with melted cheese.

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 8 ounces elbow macaroni, cooked and drained
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add the onion, green bell pepper, and garlic to the skillet. Cook until vegetables are tender.
  4. Stir in the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Combine the cooked macaroni with the meat sauce. Transfer to a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  6. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for the ground beef for a lighter version.
  • Feel free to add other vegetables like mushrooms or zucchini.
  • This casserole can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated before baking.
