Reuben sandwich

The Reuben sandwich is a classic American deli sandwich made with corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Russian or Thousand Island dressing, grilled between slices of rye bread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 slices of rye bread
  • 4 ounces of corned beef
  • 2 slices of Swiss cheese
  • 1/4 cup of sauerkraut, drained
  • 2 tablespoons of Russian or Thousand Island dressing

Instructions

  1. Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium heat.
  2. Spread Russian or Thousand Island dressing on one side of each slice of rye bread.
  3. Layer the corned beef, sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese on the unspread side of one slice of bread.
  4. Top with the other slice of bread, dressing side up.
  5. Place the sandwich on the skillet and grill until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes.
  6. Flip the sandwich and grill the other side until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden brown, about another 4-5 minutes.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add pickles or mustard.
  • Make sure to drain the sauerkraut well to avoid sogginess.
  • Serve with a side of chips or a pickle for a classic deli experience.
