Smoked gouda mac and cheese with breadcrumbs and roasted garlic

A creamy and flavorful mac and cheese dish featuring smoked gouda, topped with crunchy breadcrumbs and roasted garlic for an extra layer of taste.

  • 8 oz elbow macaroni
  • 2 cups smoked gouda cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 head of garlic
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Roast the garlic by wrapping it in foil and baking for 30-35 minutes until soft.
  3. Cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
  4. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat, then whisk in flour to create a roux.
  5. Gradually add milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens.
  6. Stir in the smoked gouda and cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
  7. Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and mix well.
  8. Transfer the mac and cheese to a baking dish, top with roasted garlic and breadcrumbs.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the top is golden brown.
  10. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add some cayenne pepper to the cheese sauce.
