  • 1 cup fondant

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a small baking pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the flour and salt, then gradually add to the wet mixture until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cake to cool completely before cutting it into small squares.
  8. Roll out the fondant and cut it into shapes to cover the petit fours.

  • For a chocolate version, substitute some of the flour with cocoa powder.
