Southern Fried Chicken: Discover the Secret Recipe!

Southern Fried Chicken

A classic Southern dish featuring crispy, golden-brown fried chicken with a flavorful seasoning blend.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 whole chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, soak the chicken pieces in buttermilk for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  2. In another bowl, mix together flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.
  3. Remove chicken from buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off, then dredge in the flour mixture, ensuring an even coating.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Fry the chicken pieces in batches until golden brown and cooked through, about 15-18 minutes per batch.
  6. Drain on paper towels and let rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add hot sauce to the buttermilk marinade.
  • Ensure the oil temperature is maintained for even cooking.
  • Serve with your favorite sides like coleslaw or cornbread.
